Overview of the Tour

The ABC with Poon Hill and Mardi Himal Trek is an incredible journey that combines the treks of Ghorepani Poon Hill, Annapurna Base Camp, and Mardi Himal. This trek is ideal for hikers who want to experience breathtaking mountain views from lower altitudes while exploring high Himalayan glaciers, icefalls, and the rural lifestyle of local people.

The trek offers stunning views of imposing peaks such as Gangapurna, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu. The journey transitions from beautiful pine, oak, and rhododendron forests to lowland terraced farmland, with mountain views improving as you ascend higher.

One of the highlights of this trek is the early-morning sunrise view from Poon Hill. The best part is that the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Mardi Himal can be completed at any time of the year. Spending evenings in local teahouses and homestays allows you to experience the diverse customs of Nepal’s ethnic groups firsthand.

The trek begins with a tourist bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara. After leaving Pokhara, it takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to reach Birethanti, where the main trek begins. As the journey progresses, you’ll pass through terraced farms filled with rice and mustard. You’ll then travel through the Magar and Gurung communities of Hile and Tikhedhunga before reaching Ulleri.

The next day, you’ll travel to Ghorepani via a rhododendron forest and the charming villages of Banthanti and Nangge Thanti. Early in the morning, you’ll depart from Ghorepani and head to Poon Hill to witness a stunning sunrise over Machhapuchhre and the surrounding mountain ranges. After enjoying the sunrise, you’ll return to Ghorepani for breakfast.

Continuing the trek, you’ll pass through Tadapani and head towards Chomrong. The next day, you’ll march through the beautiful villages of Sinuwa and Bamboo on your way to Dovan. Your journey will then take you through the Himalayas to reach Deurali. From Deurali, you’ll head to Annapurna Base Camp and then return to Sinuwa the following day.

From Sinuwa, you’ll move towards Landruk, marking the start of your journey towards Mardi Himal. You’ll travel from Landruk through Forest Camp and a magnificent rhododendron, pine, and oak forest to Low Camp. After spending the night in Low Camp, you’ll depart for High Camp the next morning. The next day, you’ll leave High Camp and make your way without a backpack to Mardi Base Camp.

Following your visit to Mardi Himal Base Camp, you’ll descend to Badal Danda and finally to Siding. From Siding, you’ll take a shared vehicle back to Pokhara. In Pokhara, you can enjoy a boat trip on Phewa Lake and explore some of the city’s most beautiful areas. The 17-day ABC with Poon Hill and Mardi Himal Trek concludes with a tourist bus ride back to Kathmandu.

All Round Trip Nepal Treks  is pleased to offer a well-planned Mardi Himal Trek with ABC via Poon Hill Detailed Itinerary, providing you with an experience of a lifetime.

What can you expect from the Tour?

Spectacular Mountain Views: Most hiking days offer uninterrupted views of the snow-capped mountain range as you pass through quaint communities. The highlands surrounding Ghorepani are home to the Poon and Magar hill tribes, who follow both Buddhism and Hinduism. From Poonhill, Annapurna Base Camp, and Mardi Himal Base Camp, you can capture the enigmatic mountain landscape of the Annapurna region. These vantage points provide beautiful vistas of Machhapuchhre, the Annapurna Massif, Hiuchuli, Lamjung Himal, Dhaulagiri, Ganesh Himal, and Manaslu.

Cultural Encounters: After Ghorepani village, the majority of the communities are inhabited by the Gurung, one of the primary hill tribes of the Annapurna Himalayas. These communities are connected to the oldest Bon religious groups and Buddhism. This trek offers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse cultural heritage of the region.

Basic Yet Comfortable Lodging: While hiking at high altitudes on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Mardi Himal and Poonhill, you may encounter simple and basic lodgings with communal facilities and showers. However, you can expect delicious meals from the dining menu served in pleasant, spacious, warm eating areas in tidy, lovely lodgings.

Diverse Flora and Fauna: The trek will take you through rhododendron-filled deep woods, gorgeous high meadows, small settlements, and peaceful waterfalls, providing a rich natural experience. The journey from the towns to the dense rhododendron and pine forest offers breathtaking mountain panoramas.

Scenic Viewpoints: The Mardi Himal View Point offers amazing views of Machhapuchre, Annapurna South, and Himchuli. If the weather is good, you could travel to Mardi Base Camp to see more of the alpine scenery. These scenic viewpoints are among the highlights of the trek, providing unforgettable vistas of the majestic Himalayas.

Best Season to Enjoy

At any time of the year, you can take part in Mardi Himal Trek with ABC via Poon Hill. However, the monsoon season is not favorable due to heavy downpours, poor visibility, leeches, mosquitoes, and a high likelihood of landslides and slick roadways. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for hiking.

Spring Season (March, April, May)

  • Advantages: Clear skies, sunny days, lush vegetation, rhododendron blooms, pleasant weather.
  • Conditions: Higher elevations may have cold mornings and evenings, no rain, and often clear skies.

Autumn Season (September, October, November)

      • Advantages: Wonderful weather, spectacular scenery, high demand for accommodation, vibrant trails.
      • Conditions: More hikers on the trails, busy season coinciding with festivals, upbeat vibe on the route.

Food Availability

During the trek, you can taste traditional Nepalese food and dishes from prominent world cuisines, including Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and Indian.

Accommodation

The Annapurna region offers several tea houses and lodges, eliminating the need for tents. Accommodations feature twin-sharing, modest yet decent facilities with wooden beds, blankets, mattresses, cushions, and often attached bathrooms. Solitary rooms can be found in most areas except for higher altitudes like Deurali and Annapurna Base Camp.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory due to the high elevation of the trek, covering high-altitude helicopter rescue, evacuation, medical, and emergency repatriation costs. A copy of the entire insurance coverage must be provided before starting the trek.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness, or acute mountain sickness, can occur above 3000 meters. Symptoms include headaches, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath.

Prevention Tips:

  • Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol.
  • Maintain a healthy diet.
