The Mardi Himal Poon Hill Trek is a moderately challenging adventure that combines natural beauty, forest walks, and cultural immersion in Nepal’s Annapurna region. Organized by ART Nepal Treks & Expedition, this trek takes travelers through quiet trails, small hill villages, and lush forests, offering a less crowded experience compared to the main Annapurna Base Camp route.
The trek begins with a scenic drive or optional flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. From Pokhara, the journey continues to Birethanti, where the trail passes through terraced fields, paddy farms, and villages such as Hile and Tikhedhunga. The gradual ascent allows trekkers to experience rural Nepalese life while building stamina for higher altitudes.
The trail continues to Ulleri, a traditional Magar village with views of Hiunchuli and Annapurna South, and then proceeds through Ghorepani, surrounded by rhododendron and oak forests. Early in the morning, trekkers climb Poon Hill (3,210m) to witness one of the most stunning sunrises over Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, and the Annapurna range.
From Ghorepani, the trek moves through Tadapani, Ghandruk, and Landruk, before starting the Mardi Himal Trek section. Hikes pass through Forest Camp and Low Camp, offering panoramic mountain views and quiet forest surroundings. The ascent continues to High Camp and finally reaches Mardi Base Camp (4,500m), where trekkers enjoy exceptional views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Himchuli, and neighboring peaks.
The descent goes via Badal Danda to Siding, followed by a drive to Pokhara. Trekkers can enjoy boating on Phewa Lake and explore local culture before returning to Kathmandu, concluding a memorable 12-day journey.
This trek is ideal for anyone seeking a moderately challenging, less crowded, scenic Himalayan trek, offering natural beauty, cultural encounters, and forest hikes.
